Micro suction ear wax removal
Blocked earwax can cause pain, affect our balance, and even our memory.
Microsuction Ear Wax Removal
.........................................................
Removal of earwax has changed a lot over the years. Known as 'ear syringing' or 'ear irrigation' as this is how health care professionals would remove it, using warm water and a syringe, or a pulsing jet of water to 'wash' the wax out. Unfortunately as you are putting something 'down' the ear, there was always a risk of damaging the ear canals, or perforating the ear drum.
Microsuction was developed as an alternative, to pull the wax out using a small suction device and magnified sight to be able to see down the ear for the whole procedure. This treatment has only been available in hospital ENT departments for many years, however, we have partnered with TympaHealth who have designed an enhanced ear care system with portable microsuction equipment which means we are able to offer the same treatment without the need to wait weeks for a hospital appointment.
Prices
- Earcare Appointment - £25
- Microsuction Ear Wax Removal - £55
During a 30-minute ear health appointment, your ear care practitioner will assess your ears using digital otoscopy, the same way your GP would look in your ears. The Tympa system allows us to record video and / or take photos so that we can show you the problem before any treatment is carried out.
We will also discuss your past medical history, as there are some cases where we cannot undertake earwax removal, if you have had ear surgery, perforated eardrum or other ear health conditions in the past.
Microsuction Ear Wax Removal
..............................................
If wax is present, we can gently remove it with microsuction, considered the gold standard of wax removal as it is considered safer than the older irrigation methods of wax removal. Once your ears are clear, we perform a hearing screening (If required) to identify any level of hearing loss. If you do have any hearing loss that does not appear to be due to ear wax blockage we can provide you with a report to take to your GP or audiologist for further investigation.
There are occasions where we may not be able to remove all of the ear wax in one go, if the wax is particularly hard, or has been there a long while for example. In this case we will offer a second appointment with comprehensive instructions on preparing your ears in between.
